Why We Are Called “Bad to the Bone” Pet Care

When I started pet sitting in 2013, I had no plan of ever growing a business. My first client’s quickly dubbed me “Doug the Dog Guy,” so that’s what I went with when I registered our first LLC in 2014.

Fast forward to the 2015, and I was driving home from a long day of drop-in visits, blasting music with the windows down, when the song Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood came on the radio.

I haven’t had many “light bulb moments” in my life, but that was definitely one of them. I knew then and there that I wanted to build my pet care business around the bold authentic rock n roll culture and attitude that has always been apart of me. I changed registered for a new LLC called Bad to the Bone Pet Care the very next day, and the rest is history.

I’ve always loved rock music and the rebellious and confident nature that it embodies. I go to as many concerts as I can, and I was thinking about what “bad to the bone” truly means while I was at Welcome to Rockville this past weekend.

“Bad to the Bone” means:

• We live loud, and we love hard
• We are unapologetically our authentic, bold, passionate selves
• We value grit and determination, and we act with confidence
• We don’t play by the rules – we think outside of the bowl and come up with new and exciting ways to offer individualized pet care to meet your unique needs.

I didn’t know it when I changed the name of the business from Doug the Dog Guy to Bad to the Bone Pet Care, but this is easily the best business decision I’ve ever made. This name change has allowed me build a business that is authentic to myself and my beliefs, and more importantly, it has allowed us to build a community of team members and clients who embody the “bad to the bone” lifestyle as well.

I love everything about what we do as pet sitters and dog walkers, but getting to work with families and teammates who embody what it means to be “bad to the bone” is the ultimate dream come true. Thank you all, for bringing this dog loving metalhead’s dream to reality!
